Upcoming 1.1.0 Update, prepping Steam release

Just writing to let everyone know that I'm currently working on a bugfix and QOL update to the game in order to prepare it for a Steam release sometime in the coming month(s). (It really depends on how long Steamworks takes to validate information and approve game builds.)

The update isn't anything major, I'm just updating the save system so it'll (hopefully) work with Steam cloud saves, since currently saves break if you try using them on other PCs. (And that'd make it impossible to cross play with the Steam Deck.) I'm also working in a little secret alternate ending that people have been asking for. That's about all I can do for it, since doing porn animations takes a lot out of me, and as the game's already done I don't really want to start retroactively adding scenes to it.

Since 1.0.0 really seems to be a stable build though, and as long as the switch to the new save system doesn't completely blow up, this should really be the last build of the game I have to make. The only reason I really have to make it is so that it can go on Steam, I'm just adding a couple goodies to flesh it out a little bit more. 1.0.0 didn't really have anything wrong with it, as far as I can tell.

I've said plenty of times that I don't want to put the game on Steam, and I still really don't (because just as I predicted, the process is a pain in the ass when I'm trying to work on other projects and commissions, as well as working through IRL issues.) However, I get scammers in my DMs two or three times a month asking to "publish" Tailbound on Steam, and I'd really like to put an end to that.

Anyway, I'm just writing this to let y'all know what's going on incase Itch starts spamming your email with updates to this page, since I'll be updating it with whatever new materials/screencaps I make for the Steam page. v1.1.0 will likely be out on here well before the game launches on Steam, and I don't really advocate for or against waiting for it to drop on Steam before buying it. (Since Itch and Steam seem to take similar profit cuts, so it really doesn't make much a difference on my end.)

For what it's worth, I don't plan on furnishing itch.io buyers with Steam keys. Main reason being I can't automate the process as far as I know, secondary reason being that'd lead to a huge influx of Steam keys people could easily flip for a profit. Not like there's much of a reason to own the game on Steam vs just having the Itch version. It's the same .exe, same updates, etc.

I'll likely have v1.1.0 finished by tomorrow or Monday, see you then!

Then, is there any big difference between 1.0.0 version and 1.1.0

well it's a nice suprise i have to admit . But i wish the best for you :]

Dope.  congrats with the game btw ^w^  Hecka fun

I would prefer to get a steam key cause setting the game up on the steam deck without having it on steam is certainly more work and I generally use steam way more then any other launcher so having it there is more convenient and cause I'm German I cannot even rebuy the game on steam without asking a forigne friend to gift it to me

I can personally send out keys to those who email me for them, I just don't want to send them out en masse.

ok will do that when it comes out on steam

(1 edit)

I'll stick around here then for the updates

well that will be fun

It's been great to see this work be finished. I remember the first version and still have it downloaded on an old laptop. Your games are what I'd say are a great example of great erotic games. They function as a game first which I actually enjoy. I seriously believe you have the ability to release games without the sex that I would still buy.

Thanks for your encouragement, but I really don't feel like making games is what's right for me anymore - especially after these two games. (And Moontide) If it was easier to organize a real team and get real playtesters, then maybe I'd give it another shot with a non-erotic project, but I don't feel that'll ever happen for me.

Unlike Steam, though, you could've set that you get the whole 100%. Anyway, good to know that Itch buyers won't get Steam keys. My $10 is well-spent on this game and I like it :D

Not really. Itch adds on "transfer fees" that always suspiciously make the overall cut to them ~20%-30%, despite the default cut being 10%. And I'm not the type of person to give the platform hosting my work (and many others, typically for free) zilch.

Hope it makes some profit on steam!  Thanks for your work!
